Five Brazoswood Track & Field Athletes Headed to Regionals
Congratulations to the five Brazoswood athletes that are still competing for the track & field state titles in their respective events. Sam Whitmarsh, Jacob Markham, Dominic Escamilla, Maya Funk and Brooklyn Baker will test their abilities against the best in Region III for a chance to advance with the elite in the state.
The five qualified for Regionals on April 15th at the Area Meet in Pearland. Senior Sam Whitmarsh claimed the Area Championship in the 800 meter race while teammate Junior Jacob Markham took the Championship in the pole vault. Freshman Maya Funk placed in the top 4 to qualify in the 3,200 meter race and Freshman Brookyn Baker advanced in the triple jump. Dominic Escamilla will throw the discus at Regionals.
The Region III contest will be held April 23-24, 2021 at the George Turner Stadium in Humble Texas. Below is the competition schedule:
Maya Funk- runs the 3200m at 9:10 AM Friday
Brooklyn Baker- Triple Jumps at 1:00 PM Friday
Dominic Escamilla- Throws the discus at 1:00 PM Friday
Jacob Markham- Pole Vaults at 1:00 PM Friday
Sam Whitmarsh- Runs the 800m 3:15 PM Saturday
