The Brazoswood High School Culinary Art students participated in the Young Escoffier Mystery Basket Competition on Friday, April 19. Teachers Paul Lewis, Vanessa Richardson and Lauren Sullivan took two teams of four to the competition in Austin. Team Lewis didn’t just win 1st place in the contest but set a record as the only team to ever have a perfect score. These young chefs went up against over 45 teams and came out on top.
Students had one hour to create and plate an entree using steak, miso paste, anchovies, Coca-cola and bleu cheese and as teacher Vanessa Richardson said of the group, “These kids showed adaptability, dependability and resilience. I could not have asked for anything more and I am so proud of them.” She added, “Brazoswood Culinary is back on the map and we are just getting started.”
The winning team received a $3,000 scholarship to Escoffier, a professional knife kit from Zwilling and the cutest trophy plus bragging rights.
