Sophomore Maya Funk Brings Home District 24-6A Championship and Buccaneer Takes District Team Crown
The Brazoswood slogan this year is “It’s a great year to be a Buccaneer!” and for the Brazoswood cross-country athletes this is definitely true. Three runners placed in the top 10 spots for the Bucs, and all of them placed in the top 20 propelling them to the title. The seven runners took the following places:
Giovani Diaz - 3rd
Riley Kuhlman - 4th
Charles Patton - 6th
Trevor Kuhlman - 11th
Evan Andress - 13th
Diego Moya - 16th
Mason McFeeters - 18th

Lady Buc Maya Funk came in first place to claim the title, District Champion and guarantee her trip to the 6A Region III meet October 25th at Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas. Her teammates will join her at Regionals with their team 3rd place finish.
What was remarkable about Maya was what she did after crossing the finish line in first place. Maya took cups of refreshing water to the other competitors as they too came across the finish line on what was an extra hot and humid October day. Coach Tummins added that several girls from the team handed out water to the other runners as well. This act of service makes Maya and her teammates champions in more ways than one!
Congratulations to all the cross-country runners and best wishes at the next level.
