Brazoswood Academic UIL Team Advances to Regionals
We are proud to announce that the Brazoswood Academic UIL team has advanced to regionals after their outstanding performance at the district competition held at Clear Brook High School on March 24-25, 2023.
The Journalism Team was awarded first place, with student Avery White placing 1st in Feature Writing and 2nd in Copy Editing. She also placed as an alternate in News Writing (6th), Editorial Writing (5th), and Headline Writing (5th). Avery, who writes for our very own Brazosport Facts, placed in every journalism event. Breanna Dy another member of the Journalism Team, placed 3rd in Headline Writing and will advance to regionals. Ava Garza is an alternate placing 4th in Feature Writing, 5th in News Writing, and 6th in Headline Writing, and Harper Nichols is also a regional alternate placing 4th in Editorial Writing and 6th in Feature Writing. Lila Siegel is the journalism coach.
In Ready Writing, Valery De la Cruz placed third to advance to regionals and Breanna Dy placed fourth to be the first alternate. Cori Ingram is the Ready Writing coach. Alexia Contreras advanced to regionals by placing 3rd in Spelling and Vocabulary, coached by Vanessa Richardson.
In Math events, Minnie Tran advanced to regionals with a 3rd place win in Calculator Applications, while Gosha Krasovskiy is the 6th place alternate in Number Sense. Math events are coached by Katelyn Vandeaver.
In Science, Ayaka Ijima is an alternate for the regional event, placing 6th, but she was 2nd place in Chemistry overall. Science is coached by Cori Ingram.
The Brazoswood Academic UIL team will compete in the regional competitions to be held on April 21-22, 2023 at Seven Lakes High School in Katy. We can’t wait to hear more great news from that competition! Join us in wishing the team the best, and in congratulating all the students who worked hard and did a great job.
