German Club Takes Honors at Regional and Qualify for State
On Saturday, February 4th at the Heights High School in Houston 18 Brazoswood students who are part of the German Club competed in a variety of events at Houstonfest, the regional German Competition. Every year approximately 400 students from 17 different Houston area schools participate in Houstonfest.
One of the top events to take place at this competition is German Folk Dancing. Last year for the first time since 2014, a group of students formed a folk dance team. Now in 2023, for the first time ever, Brazoswood placed 1st in this event. This was a monumental moment, as they beat a team (Kingwood High School) who has long dominated the 1st place spot in this event.
We also had two students place 1st place in Contemporary Music, where they sang a German song and played guitar.
By placing in the top 5 at Regionals means these students qualified to compete at the Texas State German Contest at Texas State University on February 25, 2023.
Congratulations to this outstanding group and to their leader, Morgann Swenson.
