Dear Brazoswood Families -

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.  We at Brazoswood know that this year has been filled with unprecedented challenges for our students and their families.  We hope you and your family are doing well.

As you may already be aware, there is currently no at home testing option for STAAR and the latest communications from the state seem to indicate that STAAR testing will go on as planned.  For this reason, in order for our virtual students to participate in STAAR, these students will have to physically come to campus in order to test.  Testing dates are indicated below:

Mark Your Calendars - EOC Testing Days

English 1 – April 6, 13, 20, 27
English 2 – April 8, 15, 22, 29
Algebra 1 – May 4-6
Biology – May 7-11
US History – May 12-14

Student room assignments and their testing day will be distributed one week prior to their test. Students on campus will be provided with a letter of their testing days and room assignments.  Virtual students will receive their testing information through school messenger and/or email.

If you are a family of a virtual student and you are uncomfortable with coming to campus for any reason including practice testing opportunities (mock STAAR or interim) or the STAAR test itself, we understand this concern and encourage you to communicate with us directly regarding your various available options as well as your child’s unique situation.  However, if once you have explored your child’s specific situation with us, you feel that the risk of coming to campus to test is too great for your specific family situation, then you are not required to come to campus to test for STAAR or any other campus based exam.   The safety of all of our students remains our highest priority.  Please understand that there is no “opt out” of the actual testing in regards to graduation requirements set by the state of Texas. Students will still be required to pass the STAAR exams prior to graduation.

For more helpful information regarding STAAR testing in the midst of the COVID 19 pandemic, please see the BISD parent Q&A document on the district website.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this letter.  Please know that we are doing everything possible to provide the very best and safest educational experience for your children.

Thank you so much!
