Brazoswood Students Recognized for Exemplary Volunteer Service

Two Brazoswood Students, Senior Claire Thomson and Sophomore Neha Krishnan have been honored for their exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award.

The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amount of time to serve their communities, was granted by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

Claire was inspired by her youth pastor in the 6th grade to get involved with “Faith in Action” to assist repairing and building homes as well as doing projects in the community for the elderly or disabled. She has continued her work through the organization and was honored with the Gold Level Volunteer Award Status.

Neha uses her aspirations to study pediatric neurology to volunteer at Texas Children’s Summer Volunteer Program. While she volunteered in several areas of the hospital, her favorite assignment was the “Fun Cart” where she was able to brighten the day of both the children and the parents during their hospital stay. Her efforts in this area earned her the Bronze Level Volunteer Award.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards are a partnership with Prudential Financial And the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASS). Students are recognized from all over the country in this celebration. “We are thankful to have such remarkable students at Brazoswood who care about the well-being of others” stated Principal, Rita Pintavalle, who must certify each nomination. The nominations are then judged on criteria including initiative, effort, impact and personal growth by a nationwide panel.

“Demonstrating civic responsibility through volunteerism is an important part of life,” said NASSP Executive Director JoAnn Bartoletti. “These honorees practice a lesson we hope all young people, as well as adults, will emulate”.
