Brazoswood Student Art Designs Selected in VANS National Custom Culture Competition

Students in Emily Espeche’s art classes at Brazoswood custom designed two pair of shoes that were selected as Top 50 Finalists in the VANS Custom Culture Competition. The first round of judging was in the hands of designers at VANS, but now it is up to the public. Beginning Monday, April 23 at 8:00 a.m. the voting will begin. Go to vans.com/customculture to vote. Each person is allowed one vote per day. Voting ends on May 4.

Students spent several weeks designing the two pair of VANS shoes with the themes "Local Flavor" (representing our community); and "Off the Wall" (which expresses individuality, creativity, and passion).

The top winner will receive $75,000 for the Art Department as well as a "surprise" celebration for our school, sponsored by VANS representatives where they will BBQ for the entire school, give away prizes, and have a musical performance! All Top 5 Finalists will receive $10,000 to help support their campus Art Departments as well. The Voting will open on April 23rd at 8AM on www.vans.com/customculture!

Every student made multiple miniature artworks and helped brainstorm ideas to meet the themes. Approximately 60 Miniature artworks made it onto the shoes and students pulled together based on their strengths to paint different areas of the shoes. The project involved students in all of Espeche’s classes, which includes Drawing 2, 3 & 4; Painting and Advanced Placement Art.
