Brazoswood Senior Awarded Full 4-Year Scholarship and Admission to Top College
Yousef Elyoussef

Brazoswood Senior Yousef Elyoussef is one of only 1,464 finalists recognized as Match Scholarship Recipients in the QuestBridge national program.

QuestBridge connects high-achieving seniors from low-income backgrounds with scholarships. Yousef will be attending the University of Pennsylvania, one of the 42 colleges that partners with QuestBridge. The Match Scholarship is offered as part of a generous financial aid package provided by the college that covers the full cost of attendance, including tuition, room and board, books and supplies, and travel expenses.

Yousef has always strived to be involved in both the school and community. Since entering high school he has been a HOSA member and is now Brazoswood HOSA’s Vice President. He also was elected to the Texas HOSA State Officer Team working with 5 other officers to lead thousands of future health professionals. His freshman, sophomore, and junior years Yousef was elected Class President and is proud to be the current Student Body Vice President. Yousef is also both the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society President working with fellow officers to provide opportunities for other students to help the community. Along with these activities Yousef is also a letterman on the Cross Country team and competed in Science Olympiad qualifying with his team to state both his freshman and junior year. He is also the voice of the morning announcements at Bwood as he gets to remind everyone that it's always a “Great year to be a Buccaneer!”

Outside of school Yousef has volunteered and interned at Houston Methodist hospital, shadowing doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals for over 100 hours. He also works part time in the community and volunteers at the Lake Jackson Public Library, where he enjoys being a summer reading volunteer. This past summer Yousef was selected to be on the Texas Youth Preparedness Council and now advocates the importance of preparedness incase of disaster, working on a safety preparedness project for the state and community. His sophomore year he worked as an independent math tutor and currently works at what he says is the best food restaurant - Whataburger - and is a certified soccer referee.

Over time he has received multiple honors and awards being a Questbridge Scholar, a part of College Board’s National Recognition Program, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and a National Barbara James Service Award recipient.

He plans on studying Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and can’t wait to do hands-on research and learn from diverse perspectives. After college he plans on attending medical school as he aspires to be a surgeon in the future.

Yousef shared that he is thankful for his amazing family, teachers, advisors, coaches, and friends as without them he would not be anywhere near where he is today.
