The TMEA Region XVII All-Region Jazz Band tryouts were held on Monday, September 26th, at Alvin Community College, with nearly 75 students from around the Region auditioning for one of 40 spots in the All-Region Jazz Bands. This year, students from Brazoswood High School received 21 of those 40 spots – the most of any school in Region 17.
Those students earning a position in the All-Region Jazz Band II are: Wyatt Barrier, trombone; Scott Davenport, alto sax; Keaton Dingee, bari sax; Zackary Dobert, tenor sax; Nathan Finley, tenor sax; Chris Hoyles, alto sax; Matthew Markham, bass; Garrett Nicholas, trumpet; Wesley Parks, trombone; Grace Sargent, trumpet; and Silvestre Solis, trombone.
Ten students were named to the All-Region Jazz Band I, and qualify to compete for a spot in the Texas All-State Jazz Band. They are: Cameron Davies, trumpet; Joshua Gillis, bari sax; Andrea Humphrey, drums; Braeden Luera, trombone; Isaiah Lusko, trombone; Curtis McElvany, trumpet; Daniel O’Neal, trumpet; James Parsons, bass trombone; Esteban Salinas, bass trombone; and Isaac Tepperman, piano.
These twenty-one students will attend a clinic with world class educators beginning December 1st, culminating with a concert at The Clarion at Brazosport College on Saturday, December 2 at 5:00 pm. Admission is free.
