Mrs. Carolyn Harper Johnson

1965 Graduate of Lanier High School

After graduation from Lanier High School, Carolyn Johnson attended Lamar University where she earned a Bachelor of Chemistry degree with a minor in German Language.

Carolyn Johnson, through her professional contributions and her countless civic and community service, has made a significant impact on the success of African American students in our community for many years. Carolyn has achieved many honors in her professional career including Dow’s "Visible Scientist," Dow's first female Environmental Consultant, 2004 Martin Luther King Award recipient, and was appointed by Governor Rick Perry as a Director of the Brazos River Authority in 2004.

During her 34 years with The Dow Chemical Company – North America, she provided consulting services for their Texas operations wastewater permits that cover over 80 plants and departments. She has also consulted on wastewater permit issues throughout the country. 

Since retiring in 2006 as an engineer with Dow Chemical, Carolyn Johnson has continued serving our community. She resides in Freeport, where she is currently the assistant presiding officer for the Brazos River Authority Board, Vice-Chairman of Brazosport College’s Board of Regents, serves as Vice-chairman of the Board of Directors for the Employment for the Physically Disabled, and continues to chair the O. H. Lanier Alumni Association and Lanier Memorial Scholarship Fund.
