Measles Information

About Measles
Measles is a highly contagious respiratory virus that spreads through direct contact with infected droplets when a person breathes, coughs, or sneezes. Early symptoms include:

  • High fever
  • Cough
  • Runny nose
  • Red, watery eyes

A distinctive rash typically follows these symptoms. While most cases are mild, measles can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia, blindness, and encephalitis.

Protection & Prevention
The best defense against measles is vaccination. The MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine is highly effective, with two doses providing strong protection. Vaccination not only safeguards individuals but also helps protect the community—especially those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.
