Thank you for promoting unloading the pumpkin truck to the Student Council. Twelve students came to help and they worked hard! The weather was hot, and working inside the trailer was even hotter. The pumpkins were still cool from the fields (they were harvested and loaded on October 12th), wet with condensation, and covered with fine sandy New Mexico soil. This made them very slippery and you had to hug them to your chest to control them. These kids were hot, sweaty and totally filthy by the time the truck was empty. They unloaded 2,137 pumpkins!
They all worked extremely hard, but I wanted to give an extra shout out to Ellie de Valcourt. She took on the hottest, dirtiest tasks and stuck with them. One of the men from the church commented that she got started and worked like a machine, there was no stopping her.
Thank you again for supporting this community event. We couldn't have done it nearly as fast without your students' help.
